in our 35th season (July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023)!
Script submissions due November 27.
Have a production you think would be perfect for either our Rotary or Black Box stage? We want to hear all about your vision! Our Season 35 director submission process is officially OPEN. Submit no more than three projects by Sunday, Nov. 27. Fill out the form using this link bit.ly/3FgHcIg
If you have a title(s) you'd like like us to explore but are not interested in directing, please submit that here: bit.ly/3TBVSpF
Once the submission process is complete, the season selection committee will meet to discuss scripts and directors. They will identify potential shows for our 35th season and contact directors to hold interviews. After the slate is finalized at the end of January and we identify availability of rights to produce the titles we select, the suggested season will be presented to the RWT Board of Directors for a vote of approval, with a goal to hold a Season Announcement Event at Riverwalk in late February or early March.
Please pass this information on to anyone not in the Riverwalk Theatre network or those who may not see it who may be interested in submitting a show to our season selection committee. We welcome all ideas that will invite audiences, volunteers and new members to our theatre. Thank you for your consideration!
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
HOW TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL - Potential Directors
1.Fill out the play submission form at: bit.ly/3FgHcIg
2.You must include your script(s) when you submit. You may email it to rwt@riverwalktheatre.com or drop it off at the theatre office so our theatre manager, Mike Siracuse, can scan copies. Some shows have different translations or versions available, so we want to make sure we’re reading the script you want to produce. If you don’t have a copy, you must purchase it from the publisher on your dime then provide it to us.

REVIEW AND SELECTION
Interviews will be scheduled for individuals identified as potential directors for Season 35. Follow-up communication will be sent to all submitting directors by Monday, December 5, 2022. We will then work through the interview process, with the intent of presenting the proposed ‘23-’24 slate to our Board of Directors during the January Board Meeting.
As we review submissions, keep in mind that we may consider your show(s) for a future season. We are not only looking at the ‘23-’24 season, but beyond. Should you have specific preferences around timing, do not hesitate to state this or reach out to Shannon Bowen - pessimisticallychipper@gmail.com. She is happy to assist or clarify anything.

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
- Don't submit a script just because you think we should produce it. Submit scripts that you are interested in directing and that have a plan and vision that you are willing to share with us!
- Please note that all roles at RWT (both on-stage and backstage) are comprised of unpaid volunteers.. At this time the only people on productions who are paid for their time are the musicians playing in the musicals' pit orchestras.
- Who do you have in mind for your creative team? It is not necessary to have all production personnel identified at this time. However, we'd love to have an idea of what volunteer support you will need if your show is selected.
- It is important that you outline — to the best of your ability — estimated production costs. Riverwalk Theatre’s budget is voted on and determined by our Board of Directors each fiscal year, and while we understand certain costs are associated with staging a show, we encourage fiscal ingenuity and responsibility from directors while planning your potential productions. We have a large inventory of resources, including properties and furniture lofts, a fully-functioning scene shop, and a vast warehouse of options from our costume shop. At the end of the day, Riverwalk Theatre is a business, and we must make money to keep our doors open and keep producing shows. We rely on the artistic vision of our directors to put on a top-notch production AND on their ability to bring money into our theatre.
- You may submit no more than three projects. Each project requires its own submission form. (Ex: Joe Schmo submits one musical and one play. He submits two online forms for the committee to review, with two accompanying scripts sent to our theatre manager via email or dropped off at the theatre — read on for details).
