EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS COMPETITION
Emerging Playwrights is a play-writing competition sponsored by Riverwalk Theatre. The competition is open to high school students in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton Counties. Students in grades 9-12 are invited to write short one-act plays and submit them to the competition. Five plays will be selected for production and each author will receive a $1000 prize.
Submission deadline extended to February 8th.
Scripts must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023.

3. Drop off application and script to the Riverwalk Theatre office:

ELIGIBILITY
Each participant must:

- Be a high school student in Ingham, Eaton or Clinton County in Grades 9-12.
- Student must be sponsored by teacher who will be a liaison between the student and Emerging Playwrights Committee members.
- Student must submit an application form with script.
- Parent/Guardian, sponsoring teacher and student signatures are required.
- 5 Finalists will each receive a cash award of $1000.00

All scripts must:

- Be student’s original work.* The student may choose any theme/subject for the script. * Students may work together and co-author scripts. However, each student may only submit one script. If a co-authored script wins a prize, the co-authors agree to be evenly split the prize between all of the co-authors.
- Be twelve (12) pages maximum. (Not including Character/Description page and Title page.)
- Include 1-4 characters.
- Be submitted in Word document with pages numbered with no student names on scripts. Use Arial 12pt font and 1” margins.
COMPETITION CALENDAR
- September 1, 2022 – Applications Available
- October-November, 2022 – Free Workshops on Playwriting. (Specific dates and locations to be determined)
- February 8, 2023 (5 pm) – Submit application and script.
- February – April 2023 Scripts reviewed by judges.
- May 1, 2023 – Winners announced and all applicants notified.
- May-June, 2023– Plays cast and rehearsed.
- July, 2023 – Prizes awarded and plays presented at Riverwalk Theatre.
