Request for Submission of Proposals
to Direct a Play or Musical for the 2013-2014 Season Deadline for submission December 18, 2012. Riverwalk’s 2012-2013 season is off to a great start. It’s now time to plan for the 2013-2014 season. Riverwalk invites you to submit a proposal to direct a play or musical for the season, which includes both our Main Stage season and our Black Box Theatre season. Main Stage shows have open auditions. Black Box productions use minimal sets and costumes and are precast by the director. The Black Box season may also include staged readings. Black Box production dates will be set around Main Stage productions. (See potential season dates below.) Please note that the Spring children’s show is an All-Of-Us-Express production. There will be no show in the summer 2013, but the committee is considering scripts for the Renegade Festival in August. Also, the fall children's show will be in October and the December show is set. In preparing your proposal(s), complete the Season Selection Proposal form in its entirity and attach all pertinent information that may assist the Season Selection Committee in making a decision. For your information, the Committee looks at several factors when making decisions about the season. These factors include, but are not limited to, the potential for commercial as well as artistic success, play marketability, name recognition or original scripts, production size and cost, and how a play fits into the season. Riverwalk attempts to provide a balance to the season by including a variety of shows that may appeal to the entire community: children’s shows, musicals, dramas, comedies, well-known, lesser-known, classics, avant-garde, premiers, etc. We are proud to have consistently produced plays that allow for a wide range of actors in terms of gender, age and ethnicity. When considering plays for submission, please keep in mind that due to limited backstage and dressing room space, shows with large casts will present some special production challenges. It is expected that casts will be accommodated within the existing dressing rooms and the green room during the run of the production. Also please keep in mind that directors will be limited to no more than three submissions for each venue. Riverwalk has an extensive library of scripts and you are welcome to borrow from this library. If you wish to peruse scripts we do not have, you are responsible for ordering and paying for those scripts. Mike Siracuse can assist you in obtaining information concerning script availability and royalties. Please include one copy of the script with your submission form. Scripts will be scanned and sent to all members of the selection committee when they are received by the theatre office. Please mail your proposal(s) by December 18, 2012 to: Riverwalk Theatre P.O.
