Cooley Law School is again supporting the three downtown theatres, Riverwalk, BoarsHead and LCC, all doing plays with a law-related theme. “Forums” will be conducted by noted Cooley professors at 7 pm before one of the shows at each theatre.
BoarsHead offers Permanent Collection by Thomas Gibbons September 3-28. The art foundation of Alfred Morris quietly sat in a white suburban neighborhood until African American Sterling North was appointed as the museum’s new director. After discovering eight important pieces of African art in the basement, North starts a battle that raises questions of race, representation and art... the answers to which are far from black and white. Forum: 7 pm. Sept. 13 with Charles Palmer, art law specialist.
Riverwalk offers Born Yesterday, a comedy by Garson Kanin, directed by Susan Chmurynsky October 23-November 2. Harry Brock brings his ex-chorus-girl girlfriend to Washington where he’s making crooked deals with government big-wigs. Embarrassed by her lack of social graces, he hires an investigative reporter to educate her. What she learns about history, politics, and Harry’s true nature changes everything. Forum: 7 pm Oct. 25 with Cindy Faulkner, women’s law specialist.
LCC Theatre Department offers Experiment with an Air Pump, by Shelagh Stephenson, directed by (lawyer) Mary Job. In 1799, on the eve of a new century, the home of physician and scientist Joseph Fenwick buzzes with scientific experiments, social unrest, marital discord and an illicit romance. Two hundred years later, on the threshold of a new millennium, that same house reveals a dark secret with implications for its current inhabitants. What will we do to pursue knowledge, what knowledge do we value, and what are the costs when we think we know all the answers? Forum: 7 pm. Nov. 8, Cooley Law School, Professor Dorean Koenig.
